Why Not to Be a Bridesmaid
Absolutely Beautiful Dresses- NOT!You’ve made a mistake and it’s too late- you’ve already agreed to be a bridesmaid for a friend or relatives wedding out of some strange obligation to accept societal norms and not piss off the bride on her most important day- her wedding.
Why is it a mistake?
Forget the fact that you will have to wear an ugly, duplicate dress in a color totally incompatible with your skin tone whose sole purpose is to make the bride stand out from the rest of the women in her bridal party- it gets much worse. You will have to lay down enormous amounts of cash just for the privilege of wearing the dress, take on responsibilities you don’t have time for, all the while hoping you don’t slip and fall down the aisle making yourself one of the top hits on Youtube for the next decade.
Last summer, my younger cousin was in two weddings, both of which cost her an arm and a leg. Fortunately, she did not stumble onto the floor on her way down the aisle, but it was little consolation for the 350 bucks she had to lay down for her bridesmaid’s dress, which she claims was neither flattering on her or anything special to look at.
Seriously, what the hell was her friend thinking picking out a dress that cost so much? Traditionally, bridesmaids dresses are worn only one time and I’m sorry to say that most bridesmaids are not Paris Hilton heiresses with the spare cash to spend on a dress that they would never choose for themselves. Think about it- most bridesmaids are in their 20’s.....
If that wasn't enough, the cost of her dress did not include the added costs of hair, make-up, and shoes, and any other special requirements for the special bride.
I’d really like to remind you; if you’re getting married, have some consideration when you pick out your bridesmaid’s dresses and if you’re single, and have been burned by one too many friends in their weddings, you can always get them back on their wedding day.
