Where are the Guys Baring All in the Movies?
No Full-FrontalThe other day I watched “Evil Bong” on On-Demand. In the movie, a group of slightly clueless and mostly good-looking college students end up dead after tasting the wicked smoke of the evil bong. The worst scenes involved multiple females stripping down in private, fantasy rooms after inhalation. If the guys tried to touch too much skin, aka, the “evil breasts”, they would never wake up from their fantasy.
Despite my embarrassment about watching such a bad flick on tv and forcing my Dad to pay the 2.99 for it, I did laugh a few times and it got me to thinking about which movies exploit a man’s body instead of a woman’s. It seems that the motion-picture association in this good ole country has a double standard when it comes to showing breasts and female body parts or showing a penis. I think the first one I saw in a movie was way back in the days of “Porky’s” when my friend showed me how she liked to freeze-frame the VCR just in time to see some fuzzy “man-parts”.
A quick net search found a list of obscure doozies with tons of male nudity listed on this page. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately if the movies happen to suck), I have yet to view any of these harder to find films. I did, however, run across a few movies in which some real live stars bare all. If you want to see Harvey Keitel in the buff, try checking out “The Piano” and remember to use your freeze frame at the appropriate moment. “Wild Thing” offers the chance for you to see Kevin Bacon sans pants and Geoffrey Rush in “Quills” also represents some full-frontal action.
While it’s nice to see that their are some mainstream films with naked men, it’s amazing how much I had to search to find male nudity on the big screen. Even cheesy, cult-classic-type flicks like “Evil Bong” have almost zero male nudity, which is in sharp contrast to the countless Pamela Anderson look-alikes parading about in the buff for over 3/4 of that genre of movie. If you’re going to make a pseudo-porn, shouldn’t you also have male nudity in the film? I’m not even talking about equal time, I’m just talking about a little more equality.
