I went on a dating site recently to see what was out there; one of the guys I saw had a pretty charming profile. He had written three paragraphs detailing why he didn’t like American women. Apparently, in this particular man’s view, all American women are nothing but money-grubbing ho’s.
I wrote him back and in the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that I am an American woman, but do not consider myself to be a money-grubbing ho. At all. I never have been and don’t have any plans to become one in the future.
In my short response, I told him just how charming I found his material. I was a bit racist in my reply and told him that he should travel to another country and find a woman who didn’t speak his English, so wouldn’t know what a jerk he was. (I apologize for any offense that this comment may give to the fine women out there who don’t speak English.) I also told him that I found him absolutely charming.
He didn’t understand the irony in my compliment. I nearly fell off the couch when he actually responded to my message. This was one of the very few messages that I’d ever sent to someone that I wasn’t actually interested in, so his response was a true surprise for me to see.
He wrote that he would of course learn the language if he met a girl from a different country and then proceeded to ask me questions about my profile. For some reason, he seemed to like my profile for some odd reason. He gave me the address for his “real” profile and asked me to take a gander.
I don’t think having a fake hate-filled profile is all that charming at all. I didn’t tell him the rather obvious fact that not American women are money-grubbing hoes who are just after a man’s money. (Of course, if a guy like that actually had any money which I sincerely doubt, that would be the ONLY reason that anyone would go for him because of his total and complete lack of charm.)
Rampant generalizations like that tend to harm rather than help the dating process; his anti-American stance was the main reason that I suggested a different woman for him. In retrospect, maybe I shouldn’t have suggested he marry a foreign woman. That’s not really fair to the foreign women out there now, is it?
