How much do men think about sex per day? Is it every seven seconds as was previously reported? Is it even more? Are all men sex-crazed lunatics or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

The answers according to a recent sex study at Ohio State University : Less than you think, no, no, and maybe. The average man thinks about sex nineteen times per day, which isn’t even close to the widely-reported every seven seconds. But just because he’s not thinking about sex all day doesn’t mean the average man isn’t a sex-crazed lunatic.

The average woman thinks about sex ten times a day. Which means the average woman has sex on the brain about half as much as the average man.

The above results are from a study conducted by Dr. Fisher at Ohio State University at Mansfield. Truth be told, the study and its results sound more than a tad bit fishy to me. 163 participants were told to click a golf tally counter every time they thought about sex for a week. Each night, the participants were responsible for tallying the number of times that they thought about sex.

The study is due to be published soon in The Journal of Sex Research, so I didn’t get to read Dr. Fisher’s analysis or a full description of this particular sex study, but the study doesn’t seem to prove all that much about the average person’s thoughts on sex. Did all of the participants have their golf tallies on-hand all day? Were they honest enough about sex to fully report to the researchers the accurate number of times that they thought about sex? Were there enough participants to get an accurate representation of the sex thoughts of the population at large? Without the answers to these questions, it’s difficult to trust the study.
