Is the G-Spot a myth?

Some researchers at King’s College in London are claiming that the G-Spot probably does not exist on the basis of a recent study. The “study” surveyed 1,800 female twins about the G-spot with the basic idea was to ask the women if they thought they had a G-Spot. If there was corresponding evidence from their twin (meaning that if both twins happily checked “Yes, I have a G-spot”), it would indicate the genetic evidence of a G-Spot and thus prove things once and for all.

Unfortunately, the results of the “study” indicated that there was not enough corresponding evidence between the twins, which made the researchers doubt whether the G-Spot existed at all.

I see a couple of problems with this. First off, not all women (even identical twins) have the same level of sexual experience. Do they really think that every woman who has a G-Spot has necessarily found it? Hopefully, the twins would not have shared the same sexual partners who sometimes can help a woman “find” her secret spot.

Second, can you really determine whether a G-Spot exists from a survey? I am not a scientist (as is pretty clear from pretty much any post I’ve ever written), but I am seriously doubtful if you really could find out from asking people. As we all know from any kind of survey or political poll, surveys aren’t the most reliable ways of finding out information.

And, are all of the other researchers and sex writers and experts and people that have experienced mind-blowing orgasms really making this up? Did Ernst Gräfenberg, the German scientist who discovered the G-Spot, just wake up one day and say, “Wow- I think I’ll make up some bullshit story about a special orgasm for women to make men jealous, get me famous and take away any possible envy that women might have for a penis?”

I highly doubt it.

Obviously, I am not the only one who is not entirely convinced by this study. In what might rival some of the greatest debates of all time, The Journal of Sexual Medicine, is going to hold what I would like to call the great G-Spot debate with experts from both sides. I can’t wait to see it.
