Christmas, the holidays, and dating.
There are approximately 2.2 million Christmas-related movies on the Hallmark Channel, all of which detail how easy it is to fall in love and date around the holidays. I know this personally because I have watched at least 378,000 of the movies.
All of the movies are very romantic and unlike real life, only a few end in heartbreak.
In fact, one of the movies is on right now. And, the Christmas love connection sentiment is all very nice in theory, but I’ve never once seen it happen in reality. I’ve never heard of anyone going home for the holidays and falling in love with an old (or young) guy that she went to school with, I’ve never heard of anyone picking up the love of their life on Christmas Eve, and I’ve never heard of anyone falling in love in Santa’s sweat shop.
Be honest.
How many do you know who have found anything more than a one-night stand during the holiday season? How many people do you honestly know who have fell in love at their office Christmas parties? Are Christmas love stories realistic or are is the whole idea of of holiday romances just an impossible idea spread rampantly by the Hallmark Channel and the Lifetime Channel?
I think Christmas, Hannakkuh, and the holidays make it harder for people to date. Or at least harder for people to date who are in new relationships. People tend to spend time with their families and it’s awkward to invite someone new to a family event like Christmas. What does the family get the new girlfriend and how included does she feel in all of the festivities with people she has just met?
There’s also the gift issue. What can do you get someone that you’ve just met for Christmas? Especially when you don’t know how the other person feels about you. It’s hard to make a financial investment for an expensive gift for a new date. The wrong gift can make or break a relationship if the person is a little picky.
That doesn’t mean that holiday love never happens. Just not to me or anyone who I’ve ever met. Do you have a story about holiday love? Have you or any of your friends met that special someone during the holidays?
If so, leave a comment and tell us at Singlewomantalk about it. We’d love to hear what you have to say.
