Whatever you say about Britney Spears, you have to admit that she has given us all something to talk about over the years. First, it was beaver shots and a bad marriage, then it was the head-shaving incident, which I still don’t understand, and of late, her re-emergence back into the spotlight and subsequent success has caught the attention of many of us.
Not many celebrities have actually given permission to magazines or other publications to show their faces and bodies pre-photo-shopped, but Britney Spears actually had the courage to do so. Luckily, the images I saw indicated which imperfections were digitally altered because in all reality, she should be proud of her body as it definitely did not need as much touching up as some bodies would.
Basically, the photo-shopping removed invisible cellulite, a tattoo, and a couple of microscopic bruises and slightly slimmed down her butt and legs.
Jezebel, however, is not giving Britney the proper respect for showing her true body; the online site would prefer to give “the brave label for the Celebrity who demands that only non-photoshopped images be released.” I personally like the side by side images, so I can see what the photo-shoppers actually do in order to compare the before and after pictures. And, as a warning to Jezebel, if you don’t give Britney Spears the proper respect, you might just hear from Chris Crocker in the near future.
Britney Spears is not the first celebrity to show her stuff sans photo-shopping and I am hopeful that she won’t be the last. Jennifer Hawkins, who is a former Miss Universe, recently appeared on the cover of Marie Claire magazine in the nude. While I admire her courage in baring it all for the world, being crowned the most beautiful woman in the world might give you a little more confidence in your appearance than the average woman might have.
While some may revel in picking apart a celebrity’s flaws in their appearance, the idea behind showing pre-photo-shopped images is to help women with their own body images. Comparing yourself to a photo-shopped version of someone who works out with a personal trainer 5 hours a day and has had multiple plastic surgeries is definitely not beneficial to anyone. Just remember that even the celebrities are not matching up to their photo shoots.
